 About Ryan Reyna

ACPS parent: I’m the father of two girls, in 2nd and 4th grade, at Mount Vernon Community School. As I walk my girls to school most mornings, I witness on a day-to-day basis the role that schools play in our families and in our broader community. And I hear from my own kids and friends the challenges they face.

Experienced in education: I have nearly two decades of experience working across the country with school boards up to governors on best practices for helping students access and succeed on their paths to college and careers. I want to bring that expertise to shine a light on what more our system can do for our students’ future

Commitment to public service: Public service is in my blood as both my parents spent their entire careers working for the state and federal government and nonprofits. I was raised with the belief that government can and should be a tool for good. And education is the ultimate public good. That’s a big part of why I’ve dedicated my life’s work to improving educational outcomes. And in the past few years, I’ve also sought out additional ways to volunteer my time. I’ve supported the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria. I’ve recently joined the Alexandria Youth Employment & CTE Working Group led by ACT for Alexandria to help identify solutions to give our students more career-connected learning opportunities. And most relevant, I currently serve as the Chair of the School Board’s Budget Advisory Committee and I’m proud to say we’ve had a hand to play in increasing awareness about the budget and this year advocating for additional resources to increase teacher pay.
